Sushma Swaraj Not Confident of NDA Win

Bhopal: In what is sure to earn her admiration from political pundits but invoke party ire, senior BJP leader and party candidate from MP’s Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency, Sushma Swaraj, on Wednesday said that she was not sure of the BJP led-NDA emerging victorious in the general elections.

“I am not sure if the NDA will get a majority,” Swaraj was reported as saying to journalists in Bhopal.

Though, she added that if the NDA emerged the single largest alliance it could strike post-poll alliances with other parties to strike power at the center.

According to media reports, the statements are being viewed as an embarrassment by the party and it is likely to dissociate itself with Swaraj’s remarks over the next few hours.

Swaraj is in charge of the BJP poll campaign in three states, including Madhya Pradesh, where the party is confident of winning a majority of its 29 Lok Sabha seats.

BJP is yet to issue an official response to Swaraj’s statements.

Despite sending shockwaves in her own party, Swaraj’s statements validate claims made by political pundits who for long have maintained that the general elections would lead to a terribly hung parliament with the power going to a group with th maximum to offer to prospective allies.
