Solanki, Anil Dave Named BJP RS Candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday named Kaptan Singh Solanki and Anil Dave as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha bypoll in Madhya Pradesh.

The two RS berths fell vacant after BJP members from the state — Sushma Swaraj and Narendra Singh Tomar — were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent general elections.

The decision to field Solanki and Dave was taken at a meeting of the party Central Election Committee in New Delhi.

A battery of top leaders including LK Advani and Arun Jaitley attended the meeting chaired by BJP president Rajnath Singh.

While Tomar’s term ends in June 29, 2010, Swaraj’s term expires in April 2012.

It was not immediately clear as to which of the two leaders would be nominated for the longer term.
