Social Cooperation Pertinent for Development: Sahni

Bhopal  —  Describing cooperation from the society as a prerequisite for development, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni Wednesday said government alone cannot give positive results, the state’s top bureaucrat was addressing a workshop on the “Role of Women in Good Governance” at the Administration Academy in the state capital.

The one-day  seminar, organized by the Women Resource Centre of the Academy, the workshop was attended by Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry, B. Bhamati, Member, Telecom Board, Vijay Laxami Gupta, Additional Director General, Prasar Bharti, Dr. Sadhna Raut, Director General, School of Good Governance, Prof. H.P. Dixit, LNIU Professor Raka Arya, Advisor, State Planning Commission, Maneesh Tyagi, Director General, Academy of Administration, Dr. Sandeep Khanna besides senior officers of various departments, a large number of officebearers and representatives of voluntary institutions.

In his address, Sahni underlined the need to focus on continuous process of empowerment of women and said that implementation of schemes like Ladli Laxmi, Janani Suraksha, Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana in Madhya Pradesh had catalysed a positive change in the mentality of people towards the girl child.

Pointing out the comparatively better gender ratio in the state, Sahni stressed that no society could move forward ignoring the dignity and honour of its women and added that the vital role played by women in good governance is proved by the women engaged actively in various spheres of life.
Earlier, presenting an outline of the workshop Joint Secretary B. Bhamati said targets in economic growth could not be met ignoring the interests of women.

She highlighted the changing social perceptions towards women and their catapult to leadership in rural areas with the introduction of three-tier Panchayat Raj system.

The Director General, School of Good Governance Prof. HP Dixit, Member, Telecom Board Vijay Laxami Gupta, LNIU Professor Raka Arya and Adviser, State Planning Commission Mangesh Tyagi also expressed their views on the importance of ongoing process of empowerment of women in various spheres of life including the good governance.

Director, Handloom & Handicrafts, Deepali Rastogi, Project Director, Uday Project, Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, Commissioner, Panchayat Raj, Veena Ghanekar were also present at the workshop.
