Shivraj Singh Chouhan complains against Congress to Election Commission

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan led a BJP delegation to the Election Commission to lodge a complaint against Congress for spreading “false and baseless” allegations against the ruling party. He also offered some suggestions to the officials on how the body should look at issues of poll expenditure.

The BJP delegation, which included party MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, submitted a memorandum to CEC OP Rawat on fair elections, image and prestige of the EC.

The party has alleged that Congress is levelling charges that would show the poll body in a bad light. “Opposition is creating an environment of confusion through false propaganda, complaints and baseless allegations related to polls,” sources said, quoting Chouhan. The CM referred to the Congress allegation that there were 60 lakh bogus voters in MP, a claim that was found to be false upon investigation.

“Such false complaints impact the image of the state and prestige of the EC…,” Chouhan said and demanded strict action against those involved.

The CM has suggested that a single permission should be given to star campaigners for the entire state during the election, a display board should be put up outside polling booths that would give voter percentage and number of male and female voters and this would be updated every two hours on polling day, he said.
