Seven Arrested for Parading Woman Naked in MP

Bhopal:  The Madhya Pradesh police have arrested seven of the nine people accused of beating a tribal woman and parading her naked in the Champaner village of Jhabua district, said media reports citing the police on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday, when Manju of the Bhil community, returned to the village, after having eloped with her paramour Khuman last year.

At the time of the elopement, Manju was married to Babu and had three children. Khuman paid Rupee one Lakh as compensation to Babu, but the move failed to placate community elders, who ordered that Manju would not be allowed to enter the village.

Learning of her visit, nine members of the Bhil community, including Babu, barged into Manju’s parental house and beat her up before parading her naked.

“The police registered a case against all the nine people involved in the incident and the woman was admitted to district hospital,” Jhabua’s Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh was quoted as saying by IANS.

The police are persisting with a manhunt to nab the remaining accused.
