Remote Habitats to Have All-weather Roads by 2013: Bhargawa

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava has said that the remote habitats in the state will be connected through all-weather roads by 2013.

Bhargava said that after the state government has already decided to identify such roads and assess their length and cost, now it would soon launch a campaign so that all inaccessible habitats can be connected to all-weather roads. These roads will be constructed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, he added.

He said that the district collectors, district programme coordinators and chief executive officers have been instructed to identify such roads which are not covered by core network of the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).

In addition, they have been instructed to formulate an action plan to construct all these roads in a phased manner, the minister said.

“To start with, they have been directed that an initial level estimate be made by Oct 30 for the roads to be constructed during the year 2009-10,” he said.
