Raman Singh Forecasts BJP Sweep in Chhattisgarh

Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, on Monday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party was poised for a huge victory in the Lok Sabha elections it faces on April 16, coming in the midst of serious alliance problems it is facing, the pronouncement is sure to come as a major confidence booster for the right-wing nationalists.

Highlighting the various accomplishments of his government Singh waxed confident on the party returning its best ever performance in the state.

The BJP had pulled off its best ever showing in the state in 2004 General elections, when the BJP routed the Congress and marginal regional challengers by winning 10 Lok Sabha seats while the Congress could only manage one, the Congress however doubled its tally by securing victory in a by-election.

Chhattisgarh, along with Madhya Pradesh are the only two states where the forthcoming elections witness a straight vote-off between the BJP and arch rivals Congress.

“This time, the party will perform even better than the last parliamentary poll as we have cared for all sections and communities and have been providing good governance,” said Singh while speaking to correspondents in the state capital Raipur.

The BJP has declared candidates for all the 11 parliamentary segments in the state while the Congress is yet to initiate fireworks that the party is likely to witness once it declares tickets for the state.
