Nisha Shetty Financially Unable to Pay Bail
A former national woman athlete, arrested four days ago for being in prostitution when a sex racket was busted, is financial incapable to pay her bail amount at Raipur jail, said media reports.
According to a police officer, Nisha Shetty, 26, who was arrested from a posh area of Raipur, told police during interrogation that deprivation forced her to become call girl and that she had traveled to Raipur from Mumbai to earn Rs 50, 000 from a few businessmen, who had booked her for 15 days.
“Nisha along with two other women, who were arrested July 31 from Devendra Nagar, informed police that she entered into prostitution recently to get over starvation,” Shashimohan Singh, additional superintendent of police, Raipur, and the officer who is investigating the case, said.
Originally belonging to Assam, Nisha told police that she had been in debt since 2007 after her husband, Sunil Shetty, who was also a sportsperson, died of kidney problems.
A silver medal winner at the 1998 National Games, she was reportedly force into prostitution to her and her five-year-old daughter’s survival.
She has been granted bail by a local court in the case but she is still in jail for being incapable of depositing a surety of Rs 10, 000.
Reports say that several sports figures in Raipur have come forward to bale out “a person from the sports fraternity” and deposit the surety amount to secure her release.
