Provide 55 Liters of Water to Each Citizen Everyday: Minister

Bhopal  —  Public Health Engineering Minister Gaurishankar Bisen Tuesday directed officials to make arrangements to provide 55 liters of water to every citizen in the state everyday.

At a meeting chaired by the minister, the advisory committee decided to dig new tube wells in areas recording a reduction in groundwater tables.

The delegates further decided to complete physical verification of 4.5 lakh hand pumps in the state by March-end.

On the occasion the PHE minister directed officials to make arrangements to provision 55 litres of water to people living in rural areas everyday.

He also directed the officials to identify and establish alternative sources for drinking water in areas where tube wells have gone dry due to sinking of groundwater table.

Directing officials to ensure steel tanks are placed at all villages where the sanctioned cement tanks are yet be constructed, the minister urged the department to focus on surface water schemes.

Noting the rapid depletion of groundwater reserves, he said it has become imperative that we take up more surface water-based schemes to ensure regular supply of water to people.

Strategising the implementation of the directives, he said such schemes should first be implemented in the Malwa region, which is affected by a drinking water crisis.

The minister further directed officials to survey tap water schemes, closed due to non-payment of power bills.

He said he would himself inspect such schemes during his visits to the districts.
