Ragging must be curbed effectively: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed that ragging be curbed with a stern hand. Chouhan said that measures to curb ragging should be taken seriously. 

He said that directives and guidelines to this effect should be strictly complied with. The Chief Minister said that more strict provisions will be implemented to curb ragging, if necessary.
Chouhan also directed the Higher Education department to redress complaints regarding distribution of degrees at Barkatullah University, Bhopal.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary R Parasuram also reviewed measures for effective curb on ragging at a high level meeting here today. The Chief Secretary described suicide by a college girl student as unfortunate and directed such activities be curbed. He said that educational institutions’ negligence towards ragging would not be tolerated.
The Chief Secretary directed college principals and faculty members to ensure necessary measures before and after the session. Besides, the Chief Secretary directed divisional commissioners to ensure that meetings of committees headed by collectors are held where government colleges and private educational institutions should be apprised of the directives of the Supreme Court and State Government regarding ragging. The Chief Secretary said even a single incident of ragging should be taken seriously and efforts should be undertaken to prevent its recurrence.
Educational institutions should remain alert in this regard. He directed to ensure compliance with directives for complete curb on ragging and counselling of senior students. Female faculty members must be invariably included in university-level committees headed by Dean, Students Welfare.
The Chief Secretary also directed to issue written directives to educational institutions. It was informed at the meeting that the State-level monitoring cell headed by Governor (Chancellor) and university-level committees headed by Deans are already active. Besides, directives have been given to form anti-ragging squad in every educational institution.
