Prohibitory orders were imposed in parts of Mandsaur town in Madhya Pradesh on Monday after a clash between two groups resulted in heighten communal tensions in the area, police said.
A person belonging to a particular community was beaten up on Sunday night by miscreants who represented another community in the Bus Stand area of the town, police said.
Soon a crowd gathered at the area and several people were injured in the ensuing clash and stone pelting that followed, police said.
“The clash between the people belonging to different communities started once again in the morning and seeing escalating tensions, the administration had to clamp Section 144 till further orders,” city police superintendent DP Gupta was quoted as saying by IANS.
Prohibitory orders, under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, ban assembly of four or more people.
The areas under the orders are Khanpur, Sadar Bazaar, Mand, Azad Chowk and Bus Stand.
