Patel Awaits Party Rap as Officials Reject 29 Nominations

Election officials in Madhya Pradesh have rejected the nomination of 29 candidates after a scrutiny of papers filed for 13 Lok Sabha constituencies that go to polls in the second phase of the general elections.

Prominent among those rejected by election officials is former minister Rajkumar Patel, who was the Congress nominee from Vidisha against top BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who is contesting the segment for the first time.

Patel is now hounded by allegations of foul play and has come in for strong attacks from within the party state unit which is headed by former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri.

Patel says his loyalty to the party could not be doubted and plans to initiate legal action against the rejection of his nomination.

But sources in the Congress say that the party state unit has advocated for strict measures against Patel and the action is likely to come after the current election season.

Whatever be the case the situation is win-win for the BJP that has virtually been given a walk-over by the Congress in the constituency.
