No compromise with quality of roads : CM

Bhopal: The Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that quality of road construction would not be compromised at any cost. Good works should be appreciated while deliberate delays in performance would invite punitive action, he added while reviewing the plans of department of public works at Mantralaya here today. Minister for Public Works Shri Sartaj Singh was present.

Shri Chouhan said that all major routes should remain motorable in the rainy season for which all possible measures need to be taken up on time.
Stressing the need for constant monitoring to ensure quality, he said that inspection reports should also be regularly reviewed. The places, which are often left in monitoring should be listed out. Administrative mechanism should also be amended if necessary to concentrate on such places, he added.

The Chief Minister said that citizens’ safety is the highest priority in urban traffic system. The cities where urban traffic pressure is abnormally heavy, the ring road model should be drawn up. He said that all roads should be in proper condition by 2018.

Describing roads as key component of development , Shri Chouhan asked the Department of Public Works and Rural Development to jointly draw out plans for road construction. Possibilities of using the balance money after spending on maintenance of roads under Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana using Mandi fund should be explored. He stressed on constructing Salkanpur -Malivaya to Budni road into four lane. The Chief Minister also reviewed progress of infrastructure development for Simhastha 2016.

The meeting was informed that against the target of 2500 km in 2014-15 as many as 2,722 km roads have been constructed. It was informed that 76th convention of Indian Road Congress would be held at Indore. Roads leading to tourist destinations would also be improved on priority.

The Chief Minister’s Contractor Scheme has helped 426 engineers receive training in the first phase while for the second phase 491 engineers have been registered.
Principal Secretary Public Works Shri Pramod Agarwal, Managing Director M.P. Road Development Corporation Shri Manish Rastogi, Secretary to CM Shri Hariranjan Rao and senior officers were present.
