Nine-day Billiards Championship to Begin in Indore from Tomorrow

The seven-nation Asian Billiards championship will be played in Indore from tomorrow till April 15, with defending champion Pankaj Advani and Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist to vie for top honours, reported PTI.

In the nine-day long event, eminent players like Geet Sethi, Devendra Joshi, Ashok Shandilaya, Dhruv Sitwala and Rupesh Shah will be part of the Indian contingent, said report.

The event was originally slated to be hosted by Pakistan but due to the volatile security situation there, the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS), sport’s Asian governing body, decided to shift the event to India.

“In this event, players from countries like India, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Singapore will participate in the Biliards category,” Madhya Pradesh Billiards and Snooker Association President Bholu Mehta was quoted as saying while taking to reporters.

Advani will take on compatriot Rupesh Shah in his first Group ‘A’ encounter of the tournament, report said.
