National Women’s Marathon held in memory of Rajmata late Vijayaraje Scindia
Bhopal: A national level marathon in memory of Rajmata late Vijayaraje Scindia was held at Gwalior today where Asiad gold medallist Sushri Seema Punia was the chief guest. The marathon was flagged off and its prize distribution was held in the presence of Union Steel, Mining and Labour Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar.
The junior and senior categories of women’s marathon on the theme ‘road’ was flagged off by Asiad gold medallist Smt. Seema Punia, Union Minister Shri Tomar, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Minister of State for GAD Shri Lal Singh Arya and Mayor Smt. Sameeksha Gupta.
The marathon started beneath the 111 feet high National Flag of theme ‘road’ and its prizes were distributed at the ground in front of Samadhi of Veerangana Laxmi Bai. Ku. Manju won the marathon in senior category and Ku. Anjali Tomar was winner of junior category.
On the occasion, Union Minister Shri Tomar said that presence of Asiad gold medallist Smt. Punia has enhanced significance of this programme. On the initiative of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Smt. Scindia, Smt. Punia has given consent to train girls of Madhya Pradesh. Shri Tomar also paid tributes to late Smt. Vijayaraje Sindia.
Side by side the women’s marathon, a women’s empowerment rally led by Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Maya Singh was also taken out.
In both categories of the marathon winners were given attractive cash prizes. Besides, 150 cycles were also given away through lottery.
MP Shri Anup Mishra, former minister and MLA Shri Narayan Singh Kushwah, Chairman of Samanya Nirdhan Varg Kalyan Ayog Shri Balendu Shukla, former Minister Shri Dhyanendra Singh, Municipal Corporation Chairman Shri Brijendra Singh Jadon and others were also present on the occasion.
