National Lok Adalat/Mega Lok Adalat on November 30

Bhopal: National Lok Adalat and Mega Lok Adalats will be held on November 30. As many as 15 lakh cases will be put up for disposal at different district courts at all the district and tahsil headquarters. The number of case might increase till holding of Lok Adalats.

Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court Justice Shri Manikrao Khanvilkar has issued detailed guidelines and directives regarding disposal of cases at the National Lok Adalat. The cases to be disposed of at Lok Adalats include civil and criminal cases, cheque bounce under Negotiable Instruments Act, pre-litigation cases under Electricity Act and Motor Vehicle Act, cases of marriage, maintenance cases pending in various district and tahsil level courts, village courts, land acquisition and pre-litigation cases, labour cases, income tax, sales tax, railway claims, service matters, cheque cases, consumer forum, revenue, municipal corporation, Nagar Palika, Nagar Panchayat, Zila & Janpad Panchayat and cases pertaining to forest.
The same day, Mega Lok Adalats will also be held in the state where pending cases pertaining to various public welfare schemes including subsidies and assistance and long pending cases of legal service matters will be disposed of speedly. Effort is also underway that free saplings of fruit-bearing trees should be given as a token to litigants in cases pertaining for Forest and Horticulture Departments at the National Lok Adalat.
Executive Chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Legal Service Justice Shri Krishna Kumar Lahoti has said that litigants can settle their cases through agreements at the National Lok Adalats. He said that decisions and rulings of Lok Adalats are important in the sense that they are final against which no appeal or revision petition can be filed. Lok Adalat’s decisions are effective like a court decree. No fee is charged for disposal of cases at Lok Adalats and court fee deposited in advance is refunded to litigants. Settlement of cases through agreement also lead to peace, harmony and brotherhood in future between litigants and disputes are settled once forever. Due to speedy and final settlement of cases, time, labour and money of litigants are also saved. This also serves the objective of speedy and cheap administration of justice.
Justice Shri Lahoti informed that letters have been sent to all courts and all major departments of the state government to issue notices/notifications to litigants. The litigants who do not receive notices due to unavoidable circumstances can also participate in National/Mega Lok Adalat on November 30 by appearing before concerning bench and give in their consent for disposal of cases.
Besides, if any litigant’s case is pending in a court or action is to be taken at pre-litigation stage then he can also appear before the bench on the day of Lok Adalat at 10 am and apply for disposal of his case/application. Arrangements have been made that such cases will be taken up immediately and disposed of through mutual settlement. Enquiry counters will also be set up to give information as to which cases will be heard by which court.
Justice Shri Lahoti has urged all judicial and administrative officers, advocates and litigants to participate in National/Mega Lok Adalats in large numbers and get their cases disposed off.
