National Award for Sakadehi Gram Panchayat of Betul for outstading work in MNREGA

Bhopal: National Award for outstanding work under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act has been announced for Sakadehi Gram Panchayat of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh. Eleven Gram Panchayats in the country have been selected for this award. Sakadehi Gram Panchayat is one of them.
The award will be given away on February 2 at a function on MNREGA Day in New Delhi. Smt. Hemlata Wadiva is the sarpancha of the village. Sarpancha Smt. Hemlata Wadiva, up-sarpancha Shri Om Malviya and Gram Panchayat Secretary Shri Raghunath Gohe will receive this prestigious award.
Information regarding selection of Sakadehi Gram Panchayat for this coveted award has been received from the Union Rural Development Ministry to the State Government. Selection of Gram Panchayats for the award has been made on the recommendation of screening committee comprising experts.
It is noteworthy that the Gram Panchayat having a population of only 2,136 constructed 14 Kapildhara wells under MNREGA, made available irrigation facility in 17 hectare and provided 860 saplings for plantation under Nandan Phalodyan to eight beneficiaries during year 2011-12. Besides, drinking water facility was provided to 25 families through Nirmal Neer drinking water well. The panchayat developed two sports grounds in the village to provide sports facility to children. Apart from this, 20-member women’s self-help group has been associated with plantation activities to create livelihoods to them.
Besides, transport has been made smooth in the villages under the Gram Panchayat by constructing CC roads in the villages under Panch Parmeshwar Yojna. Construction of two gravel roads have provided better transport facility to people of three villages. The panchayat provided 17 thousand 131 mandays worth employment to 304 families.
