MP Tiger Census in January

Bhopal  —  The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has launched efforts to conduct a statewide tiger census to identify the total number of wild cats in the state, the exercise was last conduct in 2006.

“The last tiger census was conducted in the year 2006 and now the forest department under the supervision of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) will conduct a fresh survey in the month of January 2010,” Madhya Pradesh Forest Minister, Sartaj Singh was quoted as saying.

Some 25,000 forest department employees, equipped with special cameras, will be pressed into service to map the exact tiger population in the state.
