MP Government is committed to ensure better life of senior citizens

Bhopal: Social Justice Minister Shri Gopal Bhargava has said that Madhya Pradesh Government is committed to ensuring better life of senior citizens and fulfilling their requirements. He said that several schemes are being implemented in the state for senior citizens’ welfare. Minister Shri Bhargava was felicitating centenarians at Asra Old Age Home on the occasion of International Senior Citizens’ Day here today.
At the function, Shri Bhargava felicitated 20 senior citizens of 100 years of age of more with Rs. 1000 each, shawl and coconut. Each senior citizen was also given a stole.
Referring to Mukhyamantri Teerth-Darshan Yojna, Shri Bhargava said that senior citizens have experienced spiritual bliss during pilgrimage of Rameshwaram, Vaishno Devi and Ajmer Sharif. Other states have also expressed desire to replicate this scheme.
Shri Bhargava said that the Social Justice Department is providing facilities at 50 Old Age Homes in the state to ensure an amicable atmosphere of respect and honour of senior citizens. He informed that the State Government is considering to open an Old Age Home at every district headquarters followed by tahsils and development blocks.
At the outset, Shri Bhargava garlanded a portrait of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. He also gave away prizes to the first three winners of chess, carom and chair race competitions held at Asra, Anand Dham and Apna Ghar old age homes. Commissioner Social Justice Shri V.K. Batham and district collector Shri Nikunj Shrivastava also threw light on the programme’s objectives.
