MP Assembly Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Empowerment

Bhopal  —  Marking the International Women’s Day, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Monday unanimously passed a resolution reiterating its commitment for the empowerment of women.

The resolution was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, soon after the House reconvened after the Holi vacation Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said instead of talking about women empowerment only on a single day, the state should strive for it everyday.

Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi said noted that state governments in the country had initiated various steps to give equal status to women and stressed that the state needed to take tougher measures on the matter.

Dr Vijay Laxmi Sadho of the Congress, Meera Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Ram Lakhan Singh of the Bahujan Samaj Party also called for intensive steps to bring women at par with their male counterparts.

Speaker Ishwardas Rohani said on the 100th International Women’s Day, the Assembly again adopts the resolution expressing its commitment towards the empowerment of women.
