Flaying the alleged murder of party’s MLA from Gohad, the Congress on Tuesday called a bandh in Madhya Pradesh and demanded deployment of Central forces in the area.
It may be mentioned that MLA M L Jatav was reportedly shot dead in a village in Bhind when his vehicle was allegedly intercepted by unidentified men while the leader was on his way home from a poll rally in Gohat on Monday night.
“When a people’s representative is not safe in the state then what will happen with a common man?” Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Suresh Pachouri said.
He also insisted that Central forces are immediately deployed in Bhopal and district collector and superintendent of police removed to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in the district, party sources said.
Markets in Bhind and Datia towns of the state remained closed following the bandh call.
The body of the slain MLA after autopsy will be brought to Bhind on Tuesday and be later taken to Gohad for the last rites.
