Mitra, Dave and Sadho File Nominations for RS

Three candidates, two of BJP and one of Congress, filed their nominations for the biennial Rajya Sabha election to three seats in the state today, the last date to file the papers, said media reports.

BJP candidates Chandan Mitra and Anil Madhav Dave reached the state assembly to file their nominations accompanied by leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other party members, reports said.

Congress nominee Vijay Laxmi Sadho was accompanied by leader of opposition in state assembly Jamuna Devi, her deputy Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, state Congress president Suresh Pachouri and other party workers, said report.

The election to Rajya Sabha is scheduled to be held on June 17.

The 230-member State Assembly has 144 members of BJP, 69 of Congress. BSP has seven members and Bharatiya Jan Shakti Party (BJSP) – five, Samajwadi – one, and Independents -three.

A seat in the Assembly is vacant after Congress MLA from Sonkacha constituency Sajjan Singh Verma resigned and successfully fought Lok Sabha elections from Dewas.

Two members of Rajya Sabha from MP – Anil Madhav Dave and S Pherunavukkarsar will retire on June 29, while MP’s another member of the Upper House of Parliament Pyarelal Khandelwal has died.

If no other party fields their nominees, the three candidates of BJP and Congress would be elected unopposed from the state.

The scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers will take place on June 8 and June 10 respectively.
