Meira Kumar Inaugurates Exhibition on ‘Democracy in India’
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday inaugurated an exhibition titled ‘Democracy in India – from past to present’at the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha premises as part of the five-day-long conference of presiding officers and secretaries of legislative bodies in the country, reported PTI.
A release said that the exhibition follows the growth and development of democratic traditions in the country, starting from the ancient times to the modern parliamentary institutions, said report.
The exhibition stresses the democratic heritage in ancient India, which includes the Rig Vedic and Buddhist periods, Freedom Movement, Constitution of India and working of Indian Parliament with photographs, write-ups, charts and press-clippings, said report.
It also showcases the Indian Federal System and the legislative set-up in different states of the country, with particular emphasis on legislative activities in Bhopal, report said.
