Mehboob Stars in WCR’s 5-3 Win over SAI

Bhopal  —  Hockey lovers in the state capital found a darling in West Central Railway (WCR) custodian Mehboob Khan, who brought off three saves to ensure his team’s victory over Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the opening round of the All India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey Tournament on Wednesday evening.

Rajendra Yadav scored the opener for SAI in the 11th minute before man of the match Mubeen-ur-Rahman’s field goal saw the WCR level scores in the second half.

The scores tied at 1-1, both the teams played their hearts out but the incursions failed to bear fruit for either of the sides.

The 15 minute tie breaker also failed to throw up a result and the keenly contested game was consigned to a penalty shootout.

While the SAI custodian only managed to defend his post on one occasion, WCR goalie Mehboob Khan blocked three of the five penalty shots, to ensure a 5-3 victory for his side.
