Medical Hostels to be Vacated, Strike Enters Eighth Day

Bhopal:   Madhya Pradesh medical education department has asked deans of medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Rewa to order striking junior doctors to vacate hostel premises, say media reports citing officials.

Meanwhile, medical facilities remained crippled at these hospitals for the eighth consecutive day on Monday.

“We have already instructed the deans of medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Rewa to ask the junior doctors to vacate the hostels,” Director Medical Education, (Madhya Pradesh) VK Saini was quoted as saying by PTI.

The government order came after the state government invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and expelled nearly 1,100 junior doctors, at the five facilities, for participating in the strike.

Office bearers of Madhya Pradesh Junior Doctors Association Dr. Yogesh Puar speaking to agencies confirmed that the Gwalior Medical Hospital management has already pasted notices asking doctors to vacate their hostel.

The junior medics are on strike to push for their demands for Medical Council of India (MCI)-prescribed health facilities at the hospitals and a substantial hike in stipends.

The doctors say that the strike would continue till their demands were met by the government.
