Maran Lays Foundation of ATDC Campus in Chhindwara

Bhopal  —  Union Minister of Textiles, Dayanidhi Maran, on Friday laid the foundation stone of the Rs 10-crore Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) at Chhindwara. Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Kamal Nath, who represents the area in the Lok Sabha, attended the ceremony.

Maran, who turns 43 on Saturday, indicated that the Apparel Industry requires 5 lakh trained workers and that establishment of skill development centers, such as the ATDC, was necessitated by the demand for skilled workers in the industry.

He further said that with the establishment of a permanent campus at Chhindwara, the design centre will be able to increase its intake of students from 500 to 2,000.

Maran also announced that a Rs.1 crore fund will be sanctioned by his ministry for the holistic development of two existing handloom clusters at Saunsar and Lodhikhera in the District and the establishment of more handloom clusters in the area.

In his address, Kamal Nath, noted that the proposed permanent ATDC campus would be a boon for textile workers in the area.
