Madhya Pradesh registers five time increase in own tax revenue

Bhopal: Constant increase in state own tax revenue has played an important role in unprecedented development and growth of Madhya Pradesh in last 9 years. The own tax revenue has gone up about five times during the period. The state own tax revenue was Rs. 6,805 crore 10 lakh in year 2003-04 which has risen to Rs. 29 thousand 570 crore 68 lakh as per revised estimates for year 2012-13. According to budget estimates for year 2013-14 it is likely to further increase to Rs. 33 thousand 381 crore 68 lakh.
Madhya Pradesh has witnessed remarkable increase in plan expenditure that has led to fast development of infrastructure. This also indicates increase in the wealth with people of the state. Plan expenditure in Madhya Pradesh was Rs. 5,684 crore 73 lakh in year 2003-04 which went up to Rs. 33 thousand 540 crore 85 lakh as per revised estimates for year 2012-13. This represents over 6 fold increase. As per the budget estimates for financial year 2013-14 it is likely to go up to Rs. 37 thousand 608 crore 17 lakh.
imilarly, the capital expenditure has also grown during the period under report. This has facilitated higher budget provisions for roads, dams, irrigation etc. In year 2003-04 the capital expenditure was Rs. 2,678 crore 64 lakh which rose by about 8 fold to Rs. 16 thousand 954 crore 25 lakh as per revised estimates for year 2012-13.
In a significant achievement the state government has been able to keep the fiscal deficit within the prescribed limit of 3 percent due to prudent fiscal management. There has been revenue surplus for last 9 years consecutively, which proves efficient management of resources by the state government.
The state government has also been able to reduce the interest on loan remarkably from 22 percent of the GSDP in year 2003-04 to 9.19 percent during 2012-13.

 

Cluster development for permanency of livelihood
Bhopal: Encouraging results have been yielded by efforts to give permanency to livelihood of self-help groups by developing minimum one cluster in 15 districts covered under District Poverty Initiative Project. These include clusters of poultry, dairy, garment making, doormat and carpet making, coal brickettes, incense sticks, vegetable cultivation, handloom paper plates, napkins etc. Turmeric is being grown in about 300 acre in cooperation with 600 farmers this year in Sagar district under the project. Automatic turmeric processing machine has also been provided to the district. Initiative has been taken to grow ‘barseem’ as animal fodder with a view to increasing milk production in Shivpuri district. This information was given at a meeting chaired by Project Coordinator Shri L.M. Belwal today.
It was informed at the meeting that 44 Ajeevika Fresh showrooms have been opened at prominent places in the districts under the project to enable members of vegetable growing groups to earn handsome profit through sale of fresh vegetables. Shri Belwal directed to accord top priority to providing bank linkage to self-help groups and complete activities of forming self-help groups by June by organising maximum number of poor women in self-help groups and associate them with livelihood activities. He directed to ensure benefits of social security pension to all eligible beneficiaries and their families.
Among prescribed priorities of the project, over 57 thousand toilets are being constructed and over 36 thousand 500 smokeless chulhas have been constructed and their use ensured. As village-level organisations of these groups, 3,506 Gram Uthhan Samitis have been constituted. Savings upto Rs. 22 crore have been mobilised for women members of the group. Bank linkage of over Rs. 17 crore 29 lakh has been provided to the groups.
It was informed at the meeting that after imparting training under employment-oriented policy of the State Government, D.P.I.P. is also linking rural youths with employment resources. Last year, 19 thousand 618 youths were imparted training in various trades. Work to link trained youths with employment is being done on regular basis. Job offers have been given to over 25 thousand 800 trained youths through job fairs. At the meeting, Rewa District Project Manager Shri D.P. Singh was congratulated for receiving Sushil Chandra Vera Award for Excellence.
