Injured Digvijay Admitted to Rajgarh Hospital, Discharged

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh sustained minor head injuries after a scuffle broke out between the police and party workers he was leading in a protest in the Rajgarh district of the state on Tuesday, say media reports.

Singh was later discharged from the Rajgarh district hospital after the wound was tended to by the doctors.

The incident took place when Congress workers, protesting unscheduled power cuts in the district, attempted to force their way into the district collectorate to present a memorandum on the matter.

Singh, affectionately referred to as Diggy Raja in these parts, later told correspondents that he was not sure if the injury was a result of the lathi charge, which the Congress claims took place, or the stone pelting.

Speaking to a leading news agency, he, however, said that he was sure that a police lathi charge had taken place and several party workers, including a party MLA had been injured.

Rajgarh Collector Shivanand Dube told the media that the police had not resorted to a lathi charge, and maintained that Singh was hurt in the stone pelting.

The Congress said 10 party workers, including Khilchipur MLA Priyawrat Singh, sustained injuries.
