HC Stays Hearing on Compensation to Displaced of Omkareshwar Dam Project
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed the proposed hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) which objects to sending of compensation cheques of the displaces of the Omkareshwar Dam Project to Grievances Redressal Authority (GRA) Indore for reconsideration instead of directly providing to the displaced concerned.
A division bench comprising of Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnayak and Justice Ajit Singh stayed the hearing on a PIL filed by Naramada Bachao Andolan.
The next hearing will take place on September 4.
Petitioner contended that the Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC) had begun the process of land acquirement two decades ago under the project.
Displaced were not given any compensation.
The NHDC drafted cheques for the victims but did not deposit them to the displaced accounts. The state government and the NHDC sent the cheques for reconsideration to the GRA which was inappropriate.
