HC Serves Notices on Home Secy, DGP

Bhopal: Seeking explanation on a petition challenging the registration of an FIR against a Congress worker, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to Home Secretary, the Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police (Jabalpur).

Admitting a petition filed by Bargi Block Congress president Sukh Lal Yadav challenging registering of an FIR against him for sale of illicit liquor, a vacation bench of Justice Rajendra Menon issued notices to the Home Secretary, the DGP, Bhopal and the Jabalpur SP and sought their reply.

The court fixed the next date of hearing on June 22.

According to reports, the petitioner said that he was a political worker and participated in recent general elections and state Assembly polls for Congress. He alleged that the district BJP president was annoyed with him for the lead taken by the Congress.

Besides, the petition said that BJP leaders of Bargi area had desire to even with him and implicated him in a false illegal liquor sale case.

The petition claimed that the Station House Officer of Bargi police station refused to provide him with the copy of the FIR. He obtained the copy by using the provisions of the Right to Information Act. The copy was issued to him after rigorous efforts only.

The petitioner prayed the court to direct to quash the false FIR registered against him.
