Madhya Pradesh Court has asked the Centre, state and Principal Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) to submit affidavits within a month on the steps taken to protect tiger in the state.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice Ajit Singh sought the affidavits while hearing a PIL filed by an NGO – Kids for Tiger – Regional Director and wildlife activist Navneet Maheshwari.
In the PIL filed three years back, Maheshwari said that the tiger population in Madhya Pradesh was 710 in 2004, which has dipped to between 210-395 in 2007-08, quoting surveys.
The next hearing of the PIL is on July 24.
