HC Directs Indore Police to Trace Malegaon Blast Witness

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued directives to Indore police to track down a witness in Malegaon blast case, asking them to file a detailed report about his whereabouts in a week’s time, said media reports.

A bench comprising of Justices NK Modi and IS Shrivastava issued the directive while hearing a habeas corpus petition moved by the witness Dilip Patidar’s brother Ramswaroop more than a year ago, reports said.

Directing SSP D Srinivas Rao, the bench asked him to submit a detailed report about his whereabouts by May 6, the day of next hearing, said reports.

It may be mentioned that Patidar, who was living on rent in the house of Ramji Kalsangra, an absconding accused in the September 2008 Malegaon blast, has been missing mysteriously ever since a team of Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Mumbai picked him up from his house near Bengali Chouraha in November 2008.

In the petition, Ramswaroop had alleged that either Patidar is in illegal custody of Mumbai ATS or he has lost his life due to torture in its custody, reports said.

However, the ATS has denied the charge and told the court that Patidar had come to Mumbai on his own to record his statement in connection with the Malegaon case, said reports.

The ATS had said Patidar had also expressed his desire to give his statement in a Maharashtra court, reports said.

It had said Patidar, who was asked to bring documents to prove his identity, had left the ATS office in Mumbai on November 18, 2008, but did not return, said reports.
