Governor Thakur Lauds Efforts for Development of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal —  Lauding the state government initiatives for welfare and development, Madhya Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Sunday said the efforts are worthy of emulation. Thakur was addressing Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day function at Motilal Nehru Stadium in the state capital on Sunday.

Thakur said the foundation day is an opportune moment not only for retrospection but also for evolving long lasting strategies for the future.

While expressing pride at being the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Thakur stressed that all the sections of society and government will have to work in tandem with firm a firm resolve and dedication to ensure the all-round development of the state.

Commending the ‘Jan Sunwai’ by police and other departments, Thakur emphasised that the effort needed to be sustained. He said control over criminal elements is as important as providing protection to the common man.

Highlighting possibilities of educational development in the state Thakur said the state should be developed as a national level educational hub.
He was all praise for the dignified organisation of Foundation Day functions right down to Panchayat level.

He extended wishes for prosperity and all round development of the state.
Concluding his address the Governor led citizens in a pledge to contribute toward the development of Madhya Pradesh and to constantly strive for the welfare of all sections of society.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan urged citizens of the state to partner in the ‘Apna Madhya Pradesh Banayen ‘ campaign to realize the dream of all-round development of the state.

Informing the audience of the spirit and objectives driving the campaign – launched today, Chouhan said the purpose is to instill a sense of pride, belonging and attachment towards the state and to catalyse greater contributions from the citizens towards its development.

He said today is a day is to renew the pledge for prosperity and development of the state.

Noting the abundant natural and cultural wealth scattered across the state, its hills and rivers, its diamond reserves, the huge forest cover and the three World Heritages at Sanchi, Khajuraho and Bhim Bethka, Chouhan said the challenge now was to ensure the ideal utilization of this cultural and natural treasure trove to secure the prosperity of the people.

Though development took place in the state during the last 53 years, yet many possibilities of progress and development are still to be explored, he said.

Recounting the state’s tradition for political coordination, Chouhan said a wide consensus was required to ensure the inclusion of Madhya Pradesh in the list of developed states.

When it comes to development, all the political parties stand together. ‘Vicharon Mein Bhale Hon Matbhed, Vikas Mein Ham Sab Hain Ek,’ he said.

Terming development of social and economic infrastructure as a joint responsibility of the government and people, Chouhan iterated that the dream of state’s reconstruction can only be realised when the government and the society stand shoulder to shoulder and everyone discharges duties with conviction and honesty irrespective of role or capacity.

Chouhan said we will have to conserve our wealth and make balanced use of it. We have not only to conserve greenery but also to augment it. Water and energy conservation is also our joint responsibility and this applies to our forests, lakes and wildlife as well.

Chouhan announced a Citizens’ Charter Act will soon be enacted to fix stringent timelines for common man’s works. He said provisions will include not only setting the deadline for works but will also enshrine penal action for not completing the works within the deadline.

In his address, state BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar said a state might have priceless wealth but if the people do not have a feeling of attachment then this wealth will be exploited, and not used properly.

He said it is pertinent that we are proud to have born on the soil of Madhya Pradesh and take the state towards the path of development.

Congress state unit chief Suresh Pachouri complimented the organisation of Foundation Day celebrations and recalled that after foundation of the state in 1956, a separate Chhattisgarh state was carved out of it in the year 2000.

He said the state has seen a lot of ups and downs while going through the process of constitution and reconstitution.

Pachouri said there are ample opportunities for development in the state and it is necessary that every citizen should feel the responsibility of materializing these possibilities and dreams of development.

Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Jamuna Devi said the pledge for ushering in the Golden era of Madhya Pradesh (Swarnim Madhya Pradesh) is commendable. She hoped that the weeklong functions during Madhya Pradesh Week will be helpful in creating a feeling of attachment towards the state among the people.

She said that it is also necessary to create a sense of responsibility among public representatives and officers with a view to chalking out an all round strategy for development.

Noted playback singer Shan presented a soulful rendition of ‘Sukh ka data, sabka sathi, shubh ka ye sandesh hai. Maan ki god, pita ka ashray, mera Madhya Pradesh hai,’ a song penned by journalist and litterateur Mahesh Shrivastava. Music for the song was composed by Sunil Jha.

Another song, penned by Puroshottam Chakravarty and composed by Pramod Bhatt, was presented under the direction of noted Kathak dancer and choreographer Suchitra Harmalkar.

Office-bearers of various political parties, chairpersons and deputy chairpersons of corporations/boards, Bhopal Mayor Sunil Sood, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni, prominent administrative and police officers, office-bearers of social and cultural organisations, students and large number of people were present at the function that commenced with the hoisting of the tricolor and National Anthem and concluded with Vande Mataram.
