Fishermen Welfare Board constituted, 23 Posts Sanctioned

Bhopal. The State Government has constituted Fishermen Welfare Board for ensuring betterment of fishermen. Besides Secretary and Technical Officer, 23 other posts have also been sanctioned for the Board.

Tenure of the Fishermen Welfare Board will be of three years. It will have an independent office at Bhopal. The Board will be free to hold its meeting at any place in the state.

The Board will have Chairman, Vice-Chairman and five non-government members drawn from fishermen community. Principal Secretaries of Finance, General Administration and Fisheries will also be members of the Board. Director Fisheries will be the Member-Secretary of the Board. The Board will invite subject experts from time to time with a view to ensuring all round development of fishermen. The Board will also put forth suggestions for ensuring priorities of fishermen’s upliftment. Fishermen’s participation will be ensured in implementing ban on fishing during close season.

The Board will also give suggestions about water nut and Kamal Gatta production, research and marketing and better marketing of Makhana produced from Kamal Gatta. The Board will also give suggestions about giving priority to fishermen in growing melons and watermelons on sand on the banks of rivers, policy regarding fishing and marketing of dry fish, identification of inactive fishermen and their removal from fishermen’s cooperative societies, training to fishermen’s children in boating and swimming and all round development of fishermen besides rowing boats at ghats
