Every village in state to have water connection in next 5 years

Bhopal: A detailed action plan has been chalked out to supply drinking water to every rural household in Madhya Pradesh during next five years. Proposals worth Rs. 1200 crore will be sent to World Bank for 27 schemes for the first phase and Rs. 3570 crore for the second phase will be sent to World Bank for 22 piped water schemes. This was informed at the 4thmeeting of Board of Directors of Water Corporation at Mantralaya here today.

Chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed to adopt transparent procedures. He said that participation of concerning Gram Panchayats should be ensured in finalising group piped water schemes. He said that every household should be provided clean water.
It was informed at the meeting that drinking water at the rate of 55 liters per head will be supplied through 27 group drinking water schemes in over 800 villages in 19 districts. Construction agencies of these schemes will have to maintain and repair them for 10 years. For ensuring purification of water, it will be responsibility of concerning firm to fill overhead tank. Village Consumer Group will discharge be responsibility of distributing water and realising bill amounts.
It was informed at the meeting that in view of large number of proposals, a Project Implementation Unit has been constituted.
Public Health Engineering Minister Shri Gaurishankar Bisen, Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram, Additional CS Smt. Aruna Sharma and Secretary to CM Shri S.K. Mishra attended the meetings.
