District Authorities Responsible for Citizens Safety during Air Attacks

Bhopal  —  Recounting the role enacted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in upholding the integrity of the country’s terrestrial as well coastal borders, Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the efficient discharge of its duties by the force.

Air Marshal Gogoi was addressing a workshop on the ‘Role of district administration in protection from aerial attacks’ at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration in the state capital.

The resident commissioner of Delhi and former Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Vimal Julka prersided over the workshop, attended by the director general of the academy, Dr. Sandeep Khanna, director Muktesh Varshney and trainee officers of All-India/Central Services.

Air Marshal Gogoi said it is the responsibility of the district administration and local police to protect people and their property during aerial attacks.

He informed that Indian Air Force was incepted on October 8, 1932 by the name of Royal Air Force, which was renamed as Indian Air Force after the country’s independence.

Informing the audience of the various aspects of the Air Force, its structure, functioning, air command areas, fleet, radar system and also the humanitarian efforts it participates in, in face of natural calamities.

He further said the Air Force maintains surveillance of areas affected by Maoist and Naxal violence, which helps the local forces.

The top Air Force official also addressed queries posed by trainee officers.
Earlier, Director General Dr. Sandeep Khanna welcomed the guests. He said that this workshop will be useful for the trainee officers.

In his address, Vimal Julka said that Indian Air Force is discharging its duties efficiently and responsibly. The district administration should work as a nodal agency during an aerial attack and send necessary information to Air Force headquarters. He said the Air Force is being constantly modernised.
