CRPF Hangs up Anti-Maoists Operations in Bastar: Report

After butchering of 76 security personnel in a naxal attack in Dantewada last Tuesday, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has suspended the anti-Maoist operations in Chhattisgarh’s forests, reported IANS citing police sources.

“That attack has shocked the CRPF men in Bastar,” reported quoted a high level source in the Chhattisgarh Police as saying.

A CRPF officer declined to comment on it when contacted over phone, said report.

“I cannot say yes, I cannot say no (to what you are saying),” the officer was quoted as saying. “You may talk to our people in Delhi.”

State police is continuing its search operation against Maoists in forested area of Bastar but the CRPF is not for now supporting them, report said citing sources in state police.

“The anti-Maoist operation has been hit hard after the killing of 75 CRPF troopers April 6,” a police source was quoted as saying. “For the time being they are in their camps. No operation from CRPF is on in the jungles now.”

“I hope the CRPF will soon get over the setback and join the police for intensified combing of the forests,” he was quoted as saying.
