CPI-Maoists Showing CD of Dantewada Massacre in Training Camps

For encouraging its cadres, the Community Party of India-Maoists is showing them a CD of the April 6 butchering of CRPF personnel in jungles of Dantewada, said media reports.

Reports said that the CD, seven-minute-long, is being circulated in forested interiors of Bastar region and shown in training camps to tell them how a ‘historic and unprecedented’ attack on security personnel was carried out.

A few copies of the CD were seized from a Maoist rebel last week from an interior location in Dantewada district close to the Andhra Pradesh border, reports said citing sources.

According to reports, the video footage is of poor quality but the voice of a Maoist leader reportedly coordinating the attack can be heard.

Maoists are seen walking away with arms of the dead security personnel in the CD, said reports.

Besides, rebels carrying bags of explosives on their backs are seen marching in a single file, reports said.

Police suspect that the CD was prepared when the rebels were on their way to Chintalnar forest to lay the Dantewada ambush – and on their return journey, said reports.

“The CPI-Maoist has learnt the art of preparing video films of its major attacks from the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam),” a state intelligence bureau official was quoted as saying.

Though the officer described the CD as ’99 percent genuine’, Chhattisgarh DGP Vishwa Ranjan declined to accept ‘it as a CD of the April 6 massacre’, reports said.

“The CD is a mix up of a number of attacks carried out by the Maoists in recent years,” Ranjan was quoted as saying. “I don’t think it has a single footage of April 6.”
