Congressmen injured in police cane charge

SHIVPURI, PTI: More than a dozen Congressmen were injured following a cane charge by the police at a function organised to dedicate a girls’ hostel at Sesai village near Shivpuri.

The Congressmen were angry after the name of local MP and union minister of state Jyotiraditya Scindia did not figure in the dedication plaque of the girls’ hostel, constructed with the Central fund.

Police lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to cane charge to disperse the angry Congressmen. Police resorted to cane charge after the protesters tried to disrupt the function which was attended by Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra. Ignoring the protests, Mishra inaugurated the hostel.

Harveer Singh a Congress leader claimed that he along with former MLA Virendra Raghuvanshi and former NSUI district president Rajiv Sharma among others sustained injuries in the cane charge by Police.

Police sources said, there was a minor scuffle between the police and protesters after which the former lobbed tear gas shells and resorted to cane charge.
