CM undertakes aerial survey of districts affected by rains
Bhopal. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday undertook aerial survey of districts affected by excessive rains in the state today. Shri Chouhan took stock of the damage caused by excessive rainfall. Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram and Director General of Police Shri Nandan Dube accompanied the Chief Minister.
Shri Chouhan directed that relief operations should be continued in the affected areas. Assessment of damage should be started. He congratulated personnel and officers who saved people’s lives during floods and expressed gratitude towards the Army. He directed district administration to remain alert and extend every possible assistance to people. He instructed to give Rs. 1.50 lakh assistance each to next of the kin of those who lost their lives. Information about quantum of damage caused by excessive rains should also be sent to the Union Government.
Harda, Hoshangabad, Shajapur, Dewas, Ujjain, Vidisha, Damoh and Raisen districts have been affected by heavy rains for the last five days. There are reports of 11 casualties due to floods in the state. Water has inundated fields and houses at several places. Yesterday, lives of 156 bus passengers was saved. These passengers were stranded between a river and nullah at village Dingrauda situated between Maksi and Ujjain. Besides, 290 persons were shifted to safer place from village Karariya. Disaster management teams have been formed in all the districts. About 3,500 persons have been given shelter in relief camps in Harda and Ujjain districts.
Over Rs. five crore has been provided for relief works. Army units have been rushed from Bhopal to Maksi and Shajapur. Relief camps have been set up in the affected districts where 3,000 persons have taken shelter. Quantum of cattle and crop losses is being assessed. Bhopal divisional commissioner has made three motorboats available at Shajapur. Water is receding in Harda, but is still five to seven feet high. So far, 7.5 inch rain has been registered in Harda, 6 inch in Hoshangabad, 5.5 inch each in Ujjain, 3 inch in Ratlam and 4 inch in Shajapur,
Three persons died in Ujjain district as a wall caved in. two persons each were washed away in Sehore and Dewas districts while four persons lost their lives in Hoshangabad and two in Damoh. In Shajapur district, 290 residents of Karariya villages were rescued with the help of Army. As many as 600 persons were stranded in village Kamardhipur. At village Dingrauda (near Maksi) in Dewas district, 164 bus passengers, two trucks and two Tata Magic were marooned. They were rescued safely. Two persons taking shelter atop a atop a temple dome at marooned village Sankota were also rescued. The Chief Minister has entrusted responsibility of rescue and relief operations to Additional Chief Secretary Home Shri Indraneel Shankar Dani.
