CM receives Krishi Karman Award from President

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh was awarded Krishi Karman Award for the year 2011-12 for best performing state under total foodgrains category-1 (states with production over 10 million tonnes) by President Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a function held in New Delhi today at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan received the award. The award carries Rs. two crore and a citation certificate. Shri Chouhan was accompanied by M.P. Agriculture Minister Shri Ramkrishan Kusmaria and senior officials of the State Agriculture Department. Krishi Karman Award function was organized by Department of Agriculture and Co-operation Ministry of Agriculture Government of India. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Tariq Anwar, Leader of Opposition Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Senior BJP Leader Shri L.K. Adwani, Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Agriculture Minister of different states were present on the occasion.
The award selection was done in two steps for total food grain category-1, state performance was assessed on weight age card of 80 points on the criteria of percentage increase in productivity over the highest of last five years; than percentage procurement of actual production of 2011-12; percentage of expenditure against allocation under agriculture development scheme. The remaining 20 point were based on the criteria such as updating of data on NFSM website; new innovations/initiatives adopted for enhancing the agriculture production documentation; inter departmental coordination with line department; quality of participation and anticipation.
It may be mentioned that in the year 2011-12 Madhya Pradesh recorded ever highest total foodgrain production of 216.08 lakh MT. Earlier in the year 2010-11 the maximum production was 166.41 lakh MT. showing an increase of 18.91 percentage. The state has also recorded ever highest production of wheat 127.53 lakh MT. per hectare production of wheat has increased to 2609 kilogram in the current year 2011-12 which was 2065 kilogram in the year 2010-11. The state has also utilized 95.87 percent of funds under various crop development schemes. The state has also taken new initiatives including constitution of krishi cabinet for effective inter departmental coordination, bonus of Rs. 100 per quintal on wheat and Rs. 50 per quintal on paddy for procurement over and above MSP, direct transfer of subsidy to the bank accounts of the farmers, incentives for providing life saving irrigation (Balram Talab), setting up of custom hiring centres, promotion of de-plaughing practices under Haldhar Yojana, implementation of Yantra Doot Schemes for promotion of farm mechanisation on pilot basis, creation of cooperative seed growing societies, transfer of technology through Kisan Mitra and Kisan Didi, 30 per cent of increase in disbursement of crop loan and providing agricultural loans through cooperatives on zero percent interest rate.
