Civic Polls: 35 Municipal Wards in Bhopal Reserved for Women

Bhopal:  A draw of lots was conducted at the Gandhi Medical College campus in the state capital on Monday to select the wards to be reserved under various categories during the civic body polls scheduled for later this year.

Separate draws were conducted for Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the neighboring Berasia Municipality.

District collector Shiv Shekhar Shukla conducted the exercise in the presence of several eminent citizens and public representatives.

In the state capital, general category candidates will contest 41 of the total 70 wards, while 18 have been reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC), nine for Scheduled Castes (SC) and two for Scheduled Tribes (ST).

Woman candidates will exclusively contest 21 of the 41 wards in the general category, nine of the 18 wards in the OBC category, four of the nine wards in the SC category and one of the two wards reserved for STs.

In Berasia, Noine of the total 15 wards have been earmarked for the general category while four have been reserved for OBCs and two for SC candidates.
