Chief Minster fulfils promise with farmers of Madhya pradesh

Bhopal: About 4 lakh hectare will be irrigated in Jabalpur, Narsingpur, Katni, Rewa and Satna districts from left and right bank canals of Rani Avantibai Sagar (Bargi reservoir) in Jabalpur district. There are some villages where canal water cannot reach due to their topography. There are 6 such villages in Jabalpur district some distance away from Bargi reservoir’s left bank canal, which were considering themselves as unfortunate since canal water could not reach there due to hilly terrain despite close proximity with the reservoir.

Not only the agriculture zone of these villages was dry, but also people living there had to trek two to three kilometers to fetch drinking water facing a lot of difficulties. Condition of livestock was also pitiable under these circumstances. Finding a ray of hope, residents of these villages conveyed their agony to Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. On July 14, 2010, the Chief Minister promised farmers of these villages at village Bijaura in Jabalpur district and he will make initiative for survey to bring Narmada water to these villages.
The Chief Minister did not forget his promise and kept reminding engineers to chalk out a scheme to bring Narmada water without incurring energy consumption. Following comprehensive technical examination and considering a number of alternatives, Narmada Valley Development Authority put forth final proposal of Barbati Link Project before the Chief Minister. Fulfilling his promise, the Chief Minister approved this project at 45th meeting of Narmada Control Board on Monday. The Rs. 14 crore 4 lakh project does not require energy consumption and is relatively low-cost per hectare. Construction of the project with special technique will commence in near future. It will irrigate 850 hectare in villages Parpia, Dongaria, Parsia, Sohad, Pipardha and Barbati and will also provide adequate drinking water to them.
