Chhattisgarh Cops Sneak into Dantewada Forests to Track Maoists

Exactly two weeks after CRPF personnel were butchered in a Naxal attack, teams of Chhattisgarh police have today sneaked into forests in Dantewada to track Maoist rebels, reported IANS.

“The cops sneaked into Maoist dominated forested pockets in Dantewada in the wee hours to track down the insurgents who opened fire near five CRPF camps and then vanished into thick forests Tuesday night,” Inspector General of Police T J Longkumer was quoted as saying.

Last night, armed Maoists supported by Sangham (village-level cadres) opened fire at areas close to five CRPF camps, triggering panic among troopers, who then retaliated, said report.

In the exchange of fire, no injuries or casualties were reported, report said.

“It seems the firing was intended to provoke the troopers,” Dantewada’s Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra was quoted as saying.

According to him, the firing was reported at CRPF camps in Chintagufa, Errabore, Pollampalli, Bhejji and Kankerlanka – all in Dantewada district, some 500 km from state capital Raipur.
