BJP Leader Killed in Chh’garh

In a Maoist hit district of Chhattisgarh, three unidentified assailants shot dead a senior leader of state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), police report says.

According to information, three assailants fired three bullets into Darbar Singh Mandawi, 40, in a remote area of Rajnandgaon district, some 130 km west of capital Raipur. The leader had unsuccessfully fought assembly elections as BJP candidate from the Manpur Mohla assembly constituency.

District superintendent of police VK Choubey said that the assailants, who were in their late thirties, had some refreshments at Mandwai’s residence and then took him to a close-by area and shot him dead.

It should be mentioned that Rajnandgaon is one of the worst-Maoist-hit districts of the state where insurgents had killed five polling officers April 16 when the state went to the Lok Sabha polls.

Choubey said that police are not ruling out the possibility of Maoists’ involvement in the case.
