Bhopal Reeling under Heat, Water Crisis
Bhopal: With the mercury continuing to hover above 44 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Friday, streets in Bhopal wore a deserted look during afternoon hours.
Already reeling under a worsening water crisis, the intense heat wave has come as a huge spoiler for most Bhopalis, as dawn brings with it a struggle for water that seamlessly melts into sweltering heat by midmornings, which are made worse by repeated power cuts.
The impact of the three-pronged crisis is evident on the city lifestyle, the infamous patiyas in purana Bhopal areas of Imami Gate, Peer Gate, Ibrahimpura and even Budhwara wear a deserted look by midnight, as aficionados call it an early night, to wake up in the wee hours and start what may well be termed ‘the battle of the Balti.’
