Bhopal doctors also joined the strike

BHOPAL: On Tuesday Junior doctors in Bhopal also gone on strike as their Indore counterparts, disrupting services at the government-run hospitals despite the imposition of ESMA in the state a day earlier.

Terming the strike as illegal the Madhya Pradesh high court on Tuesday, however directed all striking doctors to resume duties by 10.30am on Wednesday. The Gwalior bench of the HC was hearing a PIL on the issue.

At least 200 doctors went on strike responding to a call given by the Madhya Pradesh State Junior Doctors Association (MPJUDA). Services at Hamidia hospital and Sultania Hospital including the casualty, emergency ward, OPD, in-patient wards and operation theatres were affected, even as the senior doctors made desperate attempts to run the show.

About 100 protesters staged a dharna outside the emergency ward of Hamidia hospital from the morning but were forcibly removed later in the day and arrested.

“About 100 striking junior doctors have been forcibly removed by the police from the place where they were on dharna. They have been arrested and sent to Central jail under section 151 of CrPC,” Uma Shankar Bhargava, the SDM, told the media.

To take the overview of the situation police reached to the hospital followed by the visit of minister for health and education Mahendra Hardia.

In Indore, medical services in the state’s largest government-run hospital, Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, were crippled as doctors refused to budge even after the arrest of a junior doctor.
