Bhargav Calls for Ironing out NREGS Difficulties

Calling on the Central Government for the immediate removal of procedural difficulties being experienced in payment of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme wages, Madhya Pradesh Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Gopal Bhargav on Wednesday said the Center should bear the two percent “transaction cost” being charged by the banks to disburse the wages.

Bhargav was speaking at the National Conference of States Panchayat and Rural Development Ministers in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Bhargav said that the state government had adopted the procedure of wage payment through banks and post office with a view to heighten transparency and accountability in the execution of works under the NREGS.

He, however, pointed out that the beneficiaries are facing a lot of difficulties in getting the wages payment in the absence of initiation of effective steps with regard to all aspects of the system.
