Baseline survey to gauge voters’ knowledge and aptitude

Bhopal: On the directives of Election Commission of India, a baseline survey will be conducted before next Vidhan Sabha elections to gauge voters’ election-related knowledge, viewpoint, aptitude and concept. The state-wide baseline survey will be conducted by Directorate of Economic & Statistics. Through the survey, work of compiling, analysing and preparation of report will also be carried out.
Ten polling centres in each of 230 Vidhan Sabha constituencies will be randomly selected including 5 in rural and as many polling booths in urban areas. From electoral rolls of every polling booth, 5 men and women each will be selected on random basis. Of them, two women and men voters each will be between 18 and 30 years of age and remaining above 30 years of age. Similarly, 10 voters will be selected from each polling booths from whom information will be gathered as per questionnaire of the Election Commission.
At the district-level entire process of baseline survey will be conducted by District Planning & Statistics Office under the guidance of collector. After selection of polling booth, work of selecting voters for the survey will be done under the supervision of Booth Level Officer. Following selection of voters, work of getting questionnaires filled up will be carried out through available enumerators, representatives of local NGOs, universities and employees of the State Government.
Efforts will also be made to involve state’s prestigious institutions, universities, ICMR Institute Jabalpur, travel & tourism industries Gwalior, IIT, IIM, IIIT and other non-government organisations in the work as per their availability. Directorate of Economics & Statistics will also seek cooperation of CRISP in the baseline survey. Arrangements will also be made to train staff linked with baseline survey in every district.
