Aslam Sher Urges Diggy to Contest

Bhopal

A true team player, hockey Olympian Aslam Sher Khan on Friday urged former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls as his presence would boost poll prospects for the party in the state.

“It is immaterial whether Mr. Singh plays as a centre-forward or in any other position but he should be there in the field,” Khan was quoted as saying by PTI in Bhopal.

Khan, whose political career has been no less chequered than his hockey days, returned to the political arc lights on Thursday with the Congress nominating him the party candidate from Sagar, a city the strapping six footer has had little to do with.

Reports suggest that the Khan campaign has come in for early trouble in the constituency, as it has miffed local Congress leaders who were aiming at the nomination.

Playing down the affair Khan says the trouble was being attempted by vested interests that had nothing to do with the Congress.

Unveiling plans, he says he intends to invite the “Chak De India” girls to participate in his campaign, given Khans’s knack of scoring in the dying moments – the contest in Sagar is likely to be interesting.
